Three teams from Amrita Vidyalayam Puthiyakavu Atal Tinkering Labs are headed to the prestigious FabLearn Asia 2020 conference to be held at Bangkok, Thailand from January 10 to 12, 2020. Projects titled “My experiences with making Electronic Steam Boats, Lego Robots and a Helper Robot” by Thajus Symlal of Class 5-C and “Taking off with Biodegradable Tensegrities: An Eco-friendly Emergency Medical Delivery Solution” by Madhumati A., Vyzag A., and Sanjula S. from Class 9-C have been selected for student panel presentations. The project “Garudan Thookam” by Diya and Soumya from Class 11 has been selected for poster presentation. The students were mentored by Mr. Akshay and Mr. Ashish.
FabLearn is a network, research collaborative, and vision of learning for the 21st century. It is based on the work of Columbia University Associate Professor Paulo Blikstein and the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab (TLTL). FabLearn conferences are held all over the world, bringing together key influencers and thought-leaders from around the world in education, policy-making, academia, design, research, and maker communities to learn, present, and discuss digital fabrication in education, the maker culture, hands-on learning, and instructional tools. The theme for the 2020 Conference is “Constructive Diversity: Role of maker education in building diverse learning environment across cultures”. The conference will feature world-renowned and Asian keynote speakers, panels of cutting-edge researchers and educators, demonstrations of the latest technology, immersive hands-on workshops, student showcases and participation of young maker generations.
