Given the pressing need in our state, our school launched a Disaster Management Club to develop capacity and improve synergy at all levels with respect to safety and disaster preparedness. The club was inaugurated by Dr. Sekhar Lukose Kuriakose, Head Scientist at Kerala State Disaster Management Authority. Other dignitaries who attended the function include Dr. Rajeev Nair, Chairperson, Department of Management, Amrita School of Business, Amrita University, Prof. Sethuraman Rao, Associate Professor at Amrita Centre for Wireless Networks and Applications, Amrita University, and Prof. Suresh Appukuttan, Amrita School of Business, Amrita University, and Ammachi Labs team members Prof. Akshay Nagarajan, Mrs. Gayathri Manikutty, Sri Vishnu Jayan, Ms. Anu Vazhayil, Ms. Radhika Shetty, Sri Anirudh Muraleedharan and Sri Ashish Mohan.
Dr. Sekhar had a very vibrant interactive session and panel discussion in which students got the opportunity to discuss the various aspects of disaster relief work. He was able to give practical suggestions regarding
disaster preparedness as he was actively involved in disaster management during the last two catastrophic floods in Kerala.
Dr. Sekhar was really impressed with our children’s work, and invited them to conduct similar workshops in his office for schools in Thiruvananthapuram.
