PHONICS SESSION

A week long session on reading and phonics, and its importance in our lives today was held for classes V to X by Dr. Chitra Shegar. Dr. Chitra earned her doctorate in Second Language Acquisition from the University of Western Australia in 2004. She has served as an Assistant Professor in the National Institute of Education, and is the founder of Reading Edge Academy which is an organisation that promotes reading. She has also conducted international teaching seminars in Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, the UK and the USA. The interactive session focused on removing the obstacles that hinder students from speaking in English. She suggested a simple remedy of reading loudly for 30 minutes daily to bring about a major change in language use.
